Ekotechnicke Muzeum

this Museum was last updated on 10 Oct 03

The old sewage works formed a part of the Prague sewerage system, built between 1895 - 1906 by english engineer William Heerlein Lindley. The entire treatment technology - screens, sand trap and sedimentation reservoirs - is hidden underground in a vast labyrinth of brick vaulted catacombs. Lindley`s plant was in service until 1967, when a new plant was opened. In the 90s a group of volunteers converted the abandoned building into an industrial heritage museum.

In 1991 the building was approved for protection by the Historical buildings board and in September 1996, the museum opened for public to mark the 90th anniversary of Prague sewerage system. Once a year, during the ""Weekend pod parou"" (Steam Weekend) organized regularly in September, various steam engines including the original pumping engines in the historical building are put into operation.
