Burčak is a greenish liquid more reminiscent of juice than wine. In reality it is young, still fermenting wine-to-be.
Regardless of which grape is used to produce burčak, the alcohol content is usually about five percent - compared to a full wine's normal 11 to 12 percent. But there's a catch. Burčak continues to ferment inside the body. After three or four hours of continuous drinking, its strength matches that of full wines. So don't be fooled.
High in Vitamin B complex, essential minerals and sugars, burčak is believed by many to possess the life-giving energy of sun and soil - the secret of good health.
Some believe that burčak should be warm when drunk, but this is not true - adding warmth only speeds up the fermentation process and the warmer it is, the shorter amount of time it will remain burčak. Serve and drink it at cellar temperature.
