Founded by Charles IV as a country getaway, this castle also served as the resting place for the Czech crown jewels. The original building, built between 1348-67, has been enhanced and modified greatly by the 19th century reconstruction by Joseph Mocker.
The castle lies atop a state park and winding street full of medieval-themed Czech shops, restauarants, and even a wax museum.
You must take a tour through the interior of the castle, which is available in English about 7-8 times per day.
