30-Minute Knedliky (Czech dumplings)

this Recipe was last updated on 4 Sep 02

That's right. You too can make houskovy knedliky (bread dumplings) in 30 minutes, the truly essential component to any Czech meal. After beer, of course.
This recipe works only in CZ, unfortunately, because I use the mix. But you can use this recipe as a cornerstone for Knedlo-Zelo-Vepro (roast pork, dumplings, sauerkraut) and even Knedliky and Eggs, which makes a fantastic breakfast or lunch.
Here's what you'll need:

1 bag of knedliky mix from the store. You want Vitana Knedliky V Prasku.
1 egg
1 houska or rohlik (roll)
.2L water
Some flour
A big pot

1. Dump the knedliky mix into a big bowl, add the egg, water, and cut up the houska and throw that in as well. Mix the whole mess together with your hands, scrunching it until its consistent. Make it into a big ball.
2. Cover the bowl with a dishcloth for 5 minutes. Start boiling a big pot of water.
3. Take the big dough ball out, spread some flour down on your counter-top. Split the big ball into two oblong shapes and roll them in the flour, until they are holding together solidly.
4. Put the two oblong dough shapes in the boiling water and boil for 20 minutes.
5. Take them out, straining excess water, cut into slices and serve. Makes enough knedliky for 4 people.

Dobrou chut!
