Kampa Island

this Sight was last updated on 5 Aug 02

This island is formed as the Vltava bracnhes into a small stream known as Certovka, the Devil's Stream. The stream apparently got its name in reference to the evil temper of a woman who lived nearby in the 19th century.
No signs of her temper remain now, however, as Kampa Island provides one of the quietist and most beautiful parts of Mala Strana. Home to both Kampa Park, which offers respite under the shade of many trees, and the small cobblestone square beneath the Charles Bridge that is packed full of fine restaurants and small hotels, Kampa Island is not to be missed.

 Getting there - public transport
Walk over the Charles Bridge toward Mala Strana and take the exit down before you get to the end (when you see the stream). You will be on Kampa Island.
