Church of St. Nicholas

this Sight was last updated on 27 Apr 04

This church, designed by Kilian Ignaz Dietzenhofer, was completed in 1735 and the statues on the outside are from the famous sculptor Antonin Braun.
During the First World War, it was used by the Czech army as a garrison, and the commander allowed artists under his command to restore it rather than fight on the front lines. After the war, it was given to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and it is now a venue for summer concerts.
Inside you will find frescoes depicting events from the lives of both St. Nicholas and St. Benedict, designed by the artist Kosmas Damian Asam.
